This reduction in nutrient content per hen was equivalent to that observed when hens were fed diets with 18 or 24% fat by weight. Nutrient contents of eggs were significantly (P = 0.0001) reduced when hens were fed diets with HF pet feedstuff as compared with diets containing LF pet feedstuff. For both experiments, the difference in DWG between hens fed diets with HF pet feedstuff as compared with hens fed diets with LF pet feedstuff was equivalent to that observed between hens fed diets containing 8 and 16% fat by weight. In both experiments, pet rations containing the NF or HF pet feedstuff significantly (P = 0.0001) increased hen daily weight gain (DWG) (grams per hen per day) as compared with hens fed diets containing LF pet food. The pellet type influenced only the weight gain of broiler breeder (BF) hens. Pet rations were formulated using a potato flour-based pellet and fish meal-based pellet with high fat (HF) or low fat (LF) content, or no fat (NF).
